Amy's Stance on Issues
Healthcare:
My granddaughter is the primary reason I'm running for US House of Representatives. This is not the world we should be leaving her generation. We have a corrupt government that is well paid by Big Money, Big Pharma and greedy corporations with their own agendas. These entities have no compassion for working class people even though we are the ones making that money for them.
My secondary reason is I was left homeless sleeping in my van, taking showers at trucks stops, because my insurance and health cost was taking up most of my pay checks. We need universal healthcare, so hard working people never have to endure homelessness and uncontrollable debt. There is no reason we should be paying out of pocket over $1000/ month for medications. Why is an EpiPen $670? Why is insulin at least $500/ bottle? We should also have universal medical in order to pay for COVID-19 testing, treatment and all emergency health care
Socio-economic justice:
Guaranteed minimum income above poverty
$16 minimum wage
Affordable housing for all through universal rent control and public housing
Universal healthcare—A community-controlled national health service
Lifelong free public education—Pre-K through College
Secure retirement—double Social Security benefits
Tax the top .01 percenters 35%
No cost child and disabled adult daycare
Marijuana Legalization and “The War on Drugs”:
It is time to end the War on Drugs. The government has wasted billions of dollars on efforts to decrease drugs shipped into the United States, TWD has filled our prisons with primarily POC, for offenses as simple as smelling like marijuana, or having personal use amount of any controlled substance on them. These people are not criminals. All current prisoners with drug use charges should be released, and all people with drug use related convictions should have their records expunged. There should be a policy of rehab over imprisonment.
Government grants should be given to farmers to cover start up cost on growing hemp. Hemp is renewable, biodegradable, and can be used to replace plastics and thousands of other items like paper and clothes.
Environmental:
The U.S. made a pledge under the Paris climate agreement to cut emissions by 2025. It also laid out broad goals for 2050. Therefore we need to:
Provide funding for solar panels and windmills for residential properties and businesses.
Eliminate cattle feedlots, and promote free-range ranches with feral hemp as the primary foliage. This will decrease methane emissions, and provide higher quality meat for human consumption.
Use recycled plastic materials (polymer modified bitumen) for roads and highways. This cheaper material will reduce the need for constant repair and construction. As well as increase gas mileage and reduce damage and excessive wear-and-tear on vehicles, while reducing plastic in landfills.
Promote production of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by giving tax incentives. Therefore increasing the need for plug-in stations.
Use energy efficient materials to build homes and buildings.
Match the European Union’s legislation to end the use of hydrofluorocarbons, powerful greenhouse gases used in air-conditioners, refrigerators and foams, the reduction in future emissions could be significant.
Civil rights, BLM, Discrimination, and LGBTQ+:
Significant steps need to be taken in order to reverse and eliminate the ongoing abuses; to end the criminalization of the Black, Brown, and Native American communities, to eradicate poverty, to invest in education, health care and the restoration and protection of human rights, that it will be impossible to repair the continuing damage wrought by the ideology of white supremacy which permeates the governing institutions of our nation. I am an advocate for civil rights for all minorities. POC, LGBTQIA, and women, we are all human and deserve to be treated humanely. We should all celebrate our diversity and unique selves.
Law enforcement reform:
There are many professions that require their members to comply with licensing and regulations, for example Nurses. I believe officers of the law should be held to similar standards. Mental evaluations should be done before entering police academy. Regular counseling should be required to renew their licensing. Licenses need to be renewed every 3 yrs. Their education needs to include how to approach mentally disabled individuals without causing harm, and how to safely maintain peace and humanely neutralize violent threats during protests. They need to eliminate the “kill or be killed” mentality. Nurses constantly need in-services to update their licensing; this should apply to law enforcement as well. Their budgeting needs to be revamped to eliminate automatic weapons, armored vehicles and tranquilizers {they are NOT doctors, why do they have access to ketamine???}.
Foreign policy:
Pledge no first use of nuclear weapons
Unilaterally disarm to a minimum credible deterrent
Negotiate with nuclear powers to enact the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
End the endless wars, send US troops home.
Cut the military budget by at least 50%
Put into effect Global Green New Deal
Use diplomacy and international law to promote peace, human rights, and democracy.
Covid-19 relief package should include:
An OSHA temporary standard to provide enforceable PPE protection for all workers
$2,000 a month to all adults over age 16 and $500 per child, until pandemic ends
Continuation of PUA at $600 per week.
Loans to all businesses and hospitals for payroll and fixed overhead to be forgiven if all workers are kept on payroll
Moratorium on evictions, foreclosures, and utility shutoffs
Cancel rent, mortgage, and utility payments
Suspend Student Loan Payments with 0% interest accumulation
Federal Universal Rent Control Aid to state and local governments sufficient to keep essential services running
Universal mail-in ballots for the 2020 general election
“COVID-19 has exposed how poorly prepared the U.S. healthcare system is to handle an epidemic,” said Green Party National Co-Chair Margaret Flowers, who also serves on the Board of Advisors to Physicians for a National Health Program. “We've missed the window for containing the virus through screening, testing and monitoring infected people and their contacts — as they did in China, South Korea and other countries. And so we can expect millions of cases.” Flowers also warned that “getting ill in the United States carries the extra burden of potential financial ruin. We need to move to a National Improved Medicare for All health system and paid medical leave as rapidly as possible."
In conclusion, at this point I would be content if all US lands were returned to the Native Americans and the rest of us pay them rent. Our government is so corrupt, that I am confident Natives would run things better. It was their lands in the first place, return it and apologize for the mess.
